No Shift: US Law Doesn't Help Bi-national Same-Sex Couples

Yesterday, ORAM wrote about the potential shift for gay immigrants in same-sex marriages where a hold had been put on deportations. Sadly, the "hold is over," according to Metro Weekly.

This means, "The agency will continue to 'enforce the law,'...which means that the Defense of Marriage Act -- which prohibits the government from recognizing same-sex marriages -- prevents those green card applications from being approved," writes Chris Geidner of Metro Weekly.

Binational same-sex couples have the potential to be asylum-seekers and refugees looking for better, safer lives in the United States. Hopefully, this will be considered as DOMA is continued to be re-examined in US courts.

Read more about this new development.
