Ways to Give
⠀
Direct Giving
You can strengthen ORAM’s work by giving directly in one of the following ways:
- Online giving is easy with Donate Now. Simply click any “Donate Now” button on this website.
- Mail a check in any amount to ORAM at the mailing address listed on this website.
- Donate real or personal property to ORAM now. Please call us to discuss the possibilities.
Planned Giving
Your generosity toward vulnerable refugees may take one of many forms, during or after your lifetime:
- Bequests are a way for you to leave your estate in whole or in part to further ORAM’s work.
- Gift Annuities are gifts of cash or securities you give now which afford you an immediate tax deduction and then pay you and one or two other annuitants a fixed yearly sum for the remainder of your lifetime.
- Charitable Remainder Unitrusts and Annuity Trusts operate like gift annuities, but instead of being outright gifts, they are placed in trust with ORAM during your lifetime. These pay you either a fixed yearly amount or a yearly percentage of their value for the remainder of your lifetime.
- Charitable Lead Trusts are a way for you to place income-generating assets in trust with ORAM for a designated period of years, after which they are returned to to you or to a non-charitable beneficiary.
- Retained Real Estate is a method for you to deed your home to ORAM while you retain the right to live in it for the rest of your life for or a specific duration of years.
- Pooled Income Funds are funds that combine your gift with those of other donors. You or someone you designate will receive a yearly share of income generated by the fund. Your share of the fund will revert to ORAM after your passing.
- Publicly-traded securities, (including shares of stock in closely held companies, bonds, and government issues) may also be donated to ORAM.
Alternative Giving
Several alternative kinds of donations can also benefit ORAM’s work on behalf of vulnerable LGBTI refugees:
- Many employers offer Workplace Giving Programs, which allow you to donate to charities directly from your payroll.
- Some employers have Employer Matching Gifts Programs whereby they will match charitable contributions made by employees. Ask the human resources or payroll department where you work whether this is an option for you.
- Airline tickets and vouchers are not transferable in some countries (e.g. United States), but in other countries (e.g. UK) it is possible to donate them. Call the airline, ask to speak to the Frequent Flyer Mile Donation department and explain you would like to donate your unused ticket or voucher to a nonprofit organization.
- Most airlines around the world have programs allowing you to donate your unused Frequent Flyer Miles. If you have unused miles you'd like to donate, contact your airline and ask to speak to the Frequent Flyer Mile Donation department.
- Credit Card Points and Rewards Programs may also in many cases be used to contribute to nonprofits. Contact your card's customer service department and ask if they'll donate to a charity of your choice when you redeem your points. Some companies will make a small contribution for every charitable donation you make with their card.
- U.S. Federal employees and military personnel are able to make charitable donations through a program called the Combined Federal Campaign.
